We are all familiar with the 911 emergency response system, but how many of you know about another response system - the 811 "Know what's below, Call before you dig" system?

The 811 is a Federal Communications Commission-designated national number for homeowners and professional excavators to call before digging. All 811 calls are directed to the local One Call Center, and the affected utilities will then mark all underground utilities free of charge.
