Protecting Pipelines & Right-of-Way
In addition to 24-hour monitoring and ongoing safety and security procedures, Explorer relies on residents and businesses to help protect the pipeline and right-of-way by notifying the company regarding potential damage or right-of-way issues.

Call Before You Dig & Report Suspected Damage
You can protect pipelines near your home or business by calling before you dig and reporting suspected damage. Explorer utilizes one-call notification systems in each of the states where it operates.
If you plan an excavation project - whether it's building a shed, installing a swimming pool, planting a tree, adding a fence or any other reason – call 811 or your local One-Call Center at least 48 hours before starting your project to have all utility lines running beneath the property identified and marked. Calling before you dig prevents accidents and injury.
If you accidentally scrape, dent or damage Explorer’s pipeline, immediately report the damage or suspected leak by calling Explorer at 1-888-876-0036. All scrapes and dents must be inspected. If it's not promptly repaired, the damage could result in a future leak or a serious accident.
Respect Right-of-Way Restrictions
The pipeline right-of-way is the land above and approximately 25 feet on either side of the pipeline. Right-of-way restrictions prohibit building or planting in the right-of-way. Unauthorized building or planting is known as right-of-way encroachment.
Explorer regularly conducts maintenance to trim trees and remove shrubs or structures in the right-of-way or that prohibit the company from clearly viewing the right-of-way during aerial or foot patrols.
In addition to visual inspections Explorer maintains a clear right-of-way to facilitate access to perform routine inspection activities as well as respond in the unlikely event of an emergency.
