 | | | | Government | | Identifying Pipelines & Above-Ground Facilities Pipeline markers are located along the pipeline right-of-way, at road and railroad crossings and at all above-ground facilities. Pipeline markers identify the general location of the pipeline, the specific products transported, the operator’s name and the emergency contact number. Pipeline markers do not identify the exact location of the pipeline. In addition to pipeline markers, the federal government provides access to maps that show the approximate location of transmission pipelines in your community. Government and safety officials can request access to additional information through NPMS and can download electronic files to import into emergency preparedness GIS systems. To view maps or to request an electronic data file, visit the online National Pipeline Mapping System | | |
